Management aspirants who wish to pursue a management degree from a renowned B-School need to take the GMAT exam for MBA admissions. Although it is a well-known fact that MBA applications can be pretty stressful, hence aspirants need to craft a GMAT study plan to prep up for the test effectively and ace the GMAT exam successfully.

Most GMAT applicants have a tough time preparing for the challenging test, not to forget they need to build their skills and strategies and practice regularly to stay upbeat with their GMAT preparation.

Here we bring two distinct phases of your preparation and structure your study timeline accordingly:

Phase 1 of Preparation: In this phase, you should try to learn and practice different concepts. While preparing you’re likely to be more receptive to newer concepts and understand them well. During this phase of your GMAT study plan, you need to practice more and more questions from the Official Guide to get habituated with the nuances of the real GMAT questions. Spare some extra time to check the questions which you’d have answered incorrectly, and try to work out ways to improve your weak areas which need improvement. While skimming through the Official Guide, you’d come across answer explanations for difficult questions or you can alternately also search the internet for solutions to complex problems.

Phase 2 of Preparation: During the second phase, you need to focus on time management strategies and craft your GMAT study plan accordingly. While you have already kick-started your preparation, it is imperative that you take one or two full-length timed diagnostic tests to get used to the subtlety of the actual GMAT exam and have good control of the time that you need to devote for each question. Remember the GMAT exam is a computer-adaptive test which implies that every question that you answer correctly upgrades the difficulty level of the upcoming questions. Hence, every examinee is always tensed to strike a balance between speed and accuracy while answering each question during the exam. As a rule of thumb, it is advisable that you should not spend more than 2 minutes for answering each question under the Quant or Verbal sections. It is highly recommended that you keep track of your timing strategy to avoid last-minute surprises in the examination center.
